John 2:1-11

Let's dig deeper into the scripture discussed in Chaplain Boyles' sermon from August 17, 2025.

The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.” “Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” - John 2:1-5

  • Point #1: God loves your persistence!

    • God is a jealous God, which means He really desires our love, affections, and prayers.

    • Mary showed her persistence when she told the servants at the wedding to stay with Jesus and to do whatever Jesus told them to do.

Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions. - John 2:6-8

  • Point #2: Whatever Jesus tells you to do, do it!

    • Even if Jesus tells you to love your enemies, forgive people who have hurt you, pray for people who mistreat you, and be obedient to Him even if your emotions don’t want to, do it anyway!

    • Jesus always knows what is absolutely best for our lives, and He often works in very mysterious ways or situations that don’t make sense to us now.

    • When Jesus told the servants to fill up the 6 massive stone jars full of water, which was a big tasks for the servants to do, the jars of water were water till the moment the “wedding planner” try the water which turned to wine.

When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!” This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him. - John 2:9-11

  • Point #3: Jesus is always in the business of transformation!

    • Mankind is similar to the 6 massive jars of water, meaning are ordinary water until Jesus transforms our lives into something extraordinary.

    • We are meant to be transformed and used by God to bring joy, peace, love, and hope to the world through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

    • Faith is the process by which we allow God to transform our lives!

My challenge to you all is to allow your faith to grow deeper and simply obey Jesus no matter what He says. God has a perfect plan for your life, and you must believe Jesus as the son of God to proceed in the right relationship with God.
